In 1986. Drew Middleton of the class of 1931 was honored. Middleton was a well-respected author and journalist, who was a correspondent for the New York Times during World War II. The following year the inductee was the drummer and bandleader Max Weinberg. Max worked and toured with Bruce Springsteen for many years as the drummer in the E Street Band. and can currently be seen as the bandleader on the popular television show, Late Night with Conan 0 ‘Brian.
1988 saw an Olympic theme for the CHS Hall of Fame. Two people with ties to Olympics were honored: The world record-holder Joetta Clark of the class of 1980 participated in the Olympics in track, and UCLA’s musical director, Arthur Bartner of the class of 1958, orchestrated the music for the Los Angeles ceremonies.
Alfred C. Kinsey(below on right) graduated from CHS in 1912. The renowned sexologist and author of The Sexual Behavior in the Human Female and The Sexual Behavior in the Human Male was honored by his alma mater in 1989.
Sharing the honor that year was Yale psychologist Robert J. Steinberg. A member of the CHS class of 1968, Steinberg has become a leading authority on human emotions, and is the author of the book The Triangle of Love.
1990 was the year that the writer and poet Judith Stahl Viorst was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Mrs. Viorst is a member of the class of 1948. Among the many books she has written is one that I have spent many an evening reading to my children, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
