Shakti Kids Yoga ~ for Kids 4-7 with Judie Hurtado
Come explore the wonderful world of children's yoga in this fun and imaginative 45-minute class! Dress in comfy clothes that have plenty of wiggle room. Bring a mat if you have one!
We will use books and music that will engage young imaginations while exploring yoga poses, visual imagery and relaxation techniques.
Judie Hurtado has been practicing various styles of yoga for over 13 years. She has been studying with many teachers, including Jennifer Kohl at Lotus Yoga in Montclair, where she completed her 300-hour yoga teacher training program. She received her Kids Yoga Certification through Karma Kids.
Ms. Judie feels honored to introduce the ancient practice of yoga to children. She loves to bring her yoga practice on and off the mat and has even introduced yoga to her own young daughters, Sofia and Alessandra.
Kundalini Yoga ~ for Teens (13 & up) & Tweens (8-12) with Trish O'Gorman
“When you understand who and what you are, your radiance projects into the universal radiance and everything around you becomes creative and full of opportunity.” ~ Yogi Bhajan
The benefits of yoga for teenagers are many and include:
Improved focus and attention
Relief from anxiety and stress
Increased mind/body awareness, flexibility and lung capacity
Improved co-ordination and balance
Improved body image and self esteem
Kundalini Yoga in particular targets the nervous system and the endocrine systems, both of which are in transition and stressed during the teenage years. The nervous system of today’s teen is particularly stressed as it is constantly turned on, with all the electronic multitasking, and screen time. So paying special attention to balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems is important for today’s teen and yoga is an effective and fun way to do just that.
Everyone can practice Kundalini yoga. No prior experience is required.
Trish O'Gorman is currently parenting two teens and loving every challenging moment. She loves working with this age group and finds teens open to the energetic yogic experience. Trish is a registered nurse, substitute school nurse, a certified teacher of Kundalini Yoga and has level 1 and 2 certification from the Radiant Child Program. She has been teaching at Shakti since 2006. |
