| Enjoy a Taste of the 18th Century at Durand-Hedden | | Date: | January 24th, 2010 | | Time: | 1:00pm | | Information: | Enjoy a Taste of the 18th century
Maplewood's historic house museum, the Durand-Hedden House invites the public to its popular annual open-hearth cooking program on Sunday, January 24, 1-4 p.m. The organization's well-known costumed interpreters will demonstrate an 18th century kitchen in action, using techniques and utensils of the period. Visitors will have the opportunity to actually "enjoy a taste the past" by sampling typical Early American soups and other staples. Children can try their hand at old-fashioned cooking chores like kneading dough and making butter.
A real “spinster” will also demonstrate the magical art of spinning wool on a spinning wheel into yarn for clothing.
The Country Store will be open with an array of unique books and gifts.
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Durand-Hedden is collecting cans of soup to be donated to the M.E.N.D. pantry. Contributions are welcome.
